CRIS is the foundational source for Texas crash data — the state's official database of crash reports (form CR-3) filed by peace officers across Texas. The public query tool lets anyone build custom reports without special software.

Queries can be filtered by contributing factor (alcohol, speed, distraction), vehicle type, injury severity, location, and time period, down to the city and county level. Results can be viewed as totals, tables, or graphs and exported to CSV.

What it contains: 100% of police-reported crashes statewide, on a rolling 10-year window, with a lag of a few weeks after an officer's report is approved.

Best for: anyone who needs the underlying numbers rather than a pre-written report — building a custom statistic, checking a county figure, or pulling raw counts by factor.
